This collection shows a selection of my hand-drawn landscape designs from 2022 to 2025. Each project—whether a private garden, a commercial space, a charity garden, or a hospital garden—came with its own challenges and successes. Over time, these designs have helped me grow, experiment, and refine my ideas and skills in different settings
CONCEPT SUMMARY
This dementia garden concept for West Newton Ward is designed to create a safe, calming, and supportive outdoor space for patients. The layout is simple and easy to follow, with enclosed boundaries to allow freedom of movement while maintaining safety. Familiar everyday objects are hidden throughout the garden to act as wayfinding features, helping patients recognise items, trigger memories, and support cognitive stimulation. The flooring is proposed as rubber safety tiles to reduce the risk of injury from falls and to provide a smooth, slip-resistant surface suitable for mobility aids. Overall, the garden is designed to promote independence, comfort, and wellbeing in a secure environment tailored to the needs of dementia patients
Garden Elements
CONCEPT SUMMARY
This garden design creates a functional and welcoming outdoor space that balances play, relaxation, and social interaction. The layout includes a soft bark mulch area designed for young children to play safely within clear sightlines from all areas of the garden, with the flexibility to convert this space into ornamental planting in the future. Existing trees and planting are carefully considered, with selective removal and pruning to improve visibility, natural light, and overall openness while retaining key greenery.
The design features a stone slab walkway that guides movement through the garden, connecting the entrance to the decking, lawn, play area, and social space. A railway-style wooden step path and tall planting create a soft transition between old and new areas of the garden, adding structure and visual interest. The proposal also includes a semi-circular social seating area with a wooden top and stone base, designed as a focal point for gatherings, with the potential to incorporate a fire pit to enhance the atmosphere. Overall, the design combines practicality, flexibility, and social functionality within a cohesive garden layout.
CONCEPT SUMMARY
The project transformed five unused car parking spaces at The Cow Shed, St Albans, into a multifunctional outdoor break area for volunteers. The design focused on creating a welcoming, functional, and green space that encourages rest, social interaction, and engagement with planting activities
The key features:
Raised Planting Beds: Three distinct groups of raised planters were installed to facilitate accessible gardening activities. One group incorporates a trellis, providing vertical planting opportunities and adding visual interest.
Seating and Break Space: Space was left for benches, allowing volunteers to relax, socialize, and enjoy the surrounding greenery.
Flexible Layout: The arrangement supports both individual and group activities, ensuring volunteers can take breaks or participate in planting sessions comfortably.
Integration of Green Elements: The combination of planters, trellis, and seating creates a calming, natural environment that enhances the overall volunteer experience.
This design effectively repurposed parking spaces into a vibrant, functional outdoor area that supports both recreation and horticultural activities, fostering community and engagement among volunteers.
THE BUILD
CONCEPT SUMMARY
This two-phase Design & Build project reimagined an industrial factory setting by integrating strong site branding with a dedicated wellbeing space for staff. The concept focused on transforming a functional environment into one that feels both visually impactful and restorative.
Phase 1 — Signage Wall (2023)
A bold, sculptural signage wall was constructed using new timber sleepers, set into a soil mound formed from the client’s own product. A key technical challenge involved curing and stabilising the structure to safely support the soil load while maintaining a clean, refined finish.

The completed wall now stands as a striking branded landmark — confidently visible, yet naturally embedded within the surrounding landscape.
Phase 2 — Wellbeing Garden (2024)
Building on the signage installation, a compact wellbeing garden was created adjacent to the feature wall. The planting palette was carefully selected for durability and low maintenance, ensuring resilience within an active factory environment.

THE BUILD
CONCEPT SUMMARY
This stroke rehabilitation garden is designed to support recovery through safe movement, sensory engagement, and quiet rest.
Wide, level pathways (1.5m, 1:12 gradients) ensure full accessibility, while varied surfaces — decking, self-binding gravel, astroturf, and stepping stones — help rebuild balance, coordination, and confidence. A small putting green and gentle level changes provide opportunities for guided physiotherapy exercises.
A central water feature and planted rock garden create a calming focal point, with screened areas and accessible seating offering spaces for rest and reflection.
The design combines therapy, independence, and wellbeing within a structured yet welcoming outdoor environment.
CONCEPT SUMMARY
This design creates a modern, multi-functional garden that balances social space, privacy, and soft planting within a compact layout. A pergola-covered seating and BBQ area forms the focal point, softened by climbing plants and evergreen screening. A flexible side space allows for future additions such as a hot tub or sauna, while a raised timber deck provides a sunny retreat. A central lawn keeps the garden feeling open, framed by layered planting and a sculptural multi-stem birch. Matching patio materials complete the cohesive, contemporary look.
Overall Vision:
A natural yet contemporary garden that combines structured entertaining with soft planting, delivering privacy, flexibility, and year-round interest in a compact space.

CONCEPT SUMMARY
This garden design keeps the existing paving and decking, using them to define a clear seating and circulation area. An L-shaped raised planter runs around the edge of the space, adding structure and maximising planting without reducing usable floor space. A curved section softens the layout and allows existing climbers to remain.
A trellis creates a more private corner with vertical planting, while a higher raised bed near the decking improves access. Bird feeders are positioned across the space to encourage wildlife.
Overall, it’s a practical, low-maintenance garden that combines clean lines with soft planting and added biodiversity.
